    Tom grew up and went to school in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    During his life, Tom was an engineer, a high school teacher, a university professor, an educational consultant, and a United States custom agent.

    As a combat veteran, he was honored to volunteer at the V.A. Hospitals. He also volunteered in the public school system and enjoyed working with the faculty and students.

    Tom was an avid hunter, golfer, skier, chess, cribbage and Go player, as well as a great storyteller. He was generous to family, friends, and people in need. He was an incredibly strong person, mentally and physically, and constantly sought to challenge himself. He was a thoughtful, loving and kind brother, parent and friend.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rusty.

    He is survived by his children, Tom, Alex, and Andrea; his son-in-law Ali; his granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah; his brothers, Jerry, Joe, and Nick; and his sisters, Penny, Delia, Elizabeth and Julie.

    Tom died in San Pedro, California.
