Vernon was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He resumed employment with Minneapolis-Moline Implement Company after the war and then worked on construction of the Garrison Dam project in North Dakota.
Vernon moved to Bovey in 1947 and worked in several mines. He retired in 1976 after twenty years with Erie Mining Company and was a member of Canisteo Lodge 271 of Coleraine, Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; two sons, Rodger and J. R. David; three daughters, Marian Haines, Myrna Potton, and Connie Daigle; one brother, Donald; one sister, Louise Mosiman; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Vernon died at Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-G-10-2-7)
