Virgil grew up in Pengilly, Minnesota.
He was a member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church in Nashwauk, Minnesota and Nashwauk Lodge 331 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years, having served as Master, the Aad Temple of Duluth, all Scottish Rite Bodies, the Marinoff-Miskovich VFW Post 8831 of Pengilly, Minnesota, the Nashwauk American Legion Post, and was known as the honorary mayor of Hart Lake.
Virgil had been a general foreman in the concentrator for LTV Mining in Calumet, Minnesota.
Virgil and Alice J. Potter were married on May 22, 1946.
His wife, Alice, in 1998; three brothers, Norman, Clayton, and Gordon; and three sisters, Bernice Fox, Muriel Johnson, and Donna Jean Gross preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Marie (Thomas) Varberg, Thomas (Mary) Gustafson, Roger (Sarah) Gustafson, and Jon (Juleene) Gustafson; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
Virgil was a former Goodland, Minnesota area resident. Virgil died in Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota. (Block 152)
