    Following school, Waldo served with the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.

    After his discharge from the service, Waldo married Joyce Darland at Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    The couple moved to Effie, Minnesota where they had resided since.

    He began employment as a partner with his father in Dahlberg Timber Company of Effie.

    Waldo served as mayor of Effie, Minnesota from 1953 to 1988. He was a member of Effie Community Presbyterian Church where he served many years on the board of trustees; AAD Temple Shrine of Duluth, Minnesota and Shrine Clubs of Hibbing and Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was past president of the Minnesota Timber Producers Association, a member of Chippewa Lodge No. 275, Deer River, Minnesota, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1764 and American Legion Post No. 182 of Effie, Minnesota, and the Shrines Royal Order of Jesters.

    Preceded in death by his mother, Huldah in 1988, surviving relatives include wife Joyce; daughters Cynthia Beyers, Linda Hanson, and Nancy Prather; son Kenneth; father Carl Dahlberg; sisters Marlene Petersen, DeLayne Shoaff, and Karen Thomas; and eight grandchildren.

    Waldo died in Northern Itasca Hospital in Bigfork, Minnesota and is buried in the Bigfork Cemetery at Bigfork, Minnesota.
