Walfred worked for F & R Wholesale Grocers for 15 years and for Hanna Mining Company for 12 years. He retired in 1980 because of poor health.
He married Edith Francis in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in September, 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Edith, two stepsons, Terrence Chmel and Patrick Chmel; one stepdaughter, Christina (John) Weyh; one sister, Helen Leino; and his mother, Mrs. Hilma Halttuen.
