Walter Franti was born February 3, 1899 in Menahga, Minnesota. He came to Bovey, Minnesota in 1906 where he was raised and attended school. On January 20, 1924 he was married to Mabel Gustafson of Osceola, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Franti made their home in Bovey until 1939 when they moved to Coleraine, Minnesota.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Bovey-Coleraine Lions Club, the Moose Lodge, Coleraine Civic Club and the Postmaster's Association. He received his appointment as Postmaster in Coleraine in 1947. He was a great outdoorsman spending most of his spare time fishing, hunting and in his garden and yard.
