William Makedonsky returned to Grand Rapids after his discharge from the Navy in 1945 and lived there for many years. He then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Hagerman, Idaho, where he had a commercial trout farm. He retired in Medford, Oregon and then moved to Valrico, Florida. Bill changed his last name to "Mac" on his Social Security records in August 1971.
Bill died in Valrico, Florida and his ashes are in Bay Pines National Cemetery, Florida (Section 61, Row 16, Site 28). He is survived by his son, William James Mac, Jr; a dear friend, Frieda Hall; two granddaughters; a brother, George; three sisters, Annie, Martha and Minnie. Preceding him in death were his parents, Sophia in 1977 and Dimitri Jake in 1980; a sister, Mary in April 1986; and a brother Steve in February 1996.
