William Metzer grew up in the Nashwauk, Minnesota area and also lived in Bovey and Grand Rapids. He married Clarissa Johnston in 1985 in Hibbing, Minnesota. He had worked for National Steel in Keewatin, Minnesota and had been a member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church of Nashwauk.
Bill died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Clarissa; his children, Billy Metzer and Rima Nyman; step-children, Steven Sugranis, Jeremiah Barby, and Angela Sugranis; four grandchildren; his father, Clayton Metzer; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his mother, Gladys; his first wife, Jackie in 1972; two sisters; and two brothers.
