Newspaper article - May 1945 – Flying over the cortege that followed the corpse of President Roosevelt up Pennsylvania avenue was a formation of about 40 P-47 fighter planes. One of the flyers in this group was Lt. Bill Barnidge of Coleraine, who has written home of his experience.
Newspaper article - Nov 1945 – First Lieutenant Wm. Barnidge has been chosen as one of the Army Air Corps pilots to fly to South America on a good will tour. Bill has been stationed at Dover, Delaware and flew from there to Minneapolis last week in order to spend Thanksgiving here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Barnidge.
Newspaper article - Mar 1946 – A press release was received from the Headquarters Panama Canal Department stating that First Lt. Wm. H. Barnidge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barnidge has arrived in Panama for duty with the Sixth Air Force. He has been assigned to the 2115th Service Unit (Aviation), Albrook Field, Canal Zone as a pilot and Military Police Officer. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Class of ’41. His wife, Helene Gloria Barnidge arrived in Panama the latter part of February.
Bill retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service.

Bill Barnidge married Helene Bowers in 1949 in North Carolina.
William Barnidge died at home in Hillsborough, Florida under the care of Hospice of Hillsborough. He is survived by two sons, Bill E. and Robert H.; two daughters, Terrie Keller and Debbie Evans; and six grandchildren.
