Wyman enlisted for a four-year hitch in the United States Navy in July, 1965.
While serving a patrol unit with the rescue service off Vietnam, Wyman volunteered for a mission over North Vietnam and returned in a plane which had been struck by ground fire.

Wyman Foster, a veteran of three years in the Navy and a five-month tour of duty off the coast of Vietnam, died as a result of an automobile accident near his naval base north of Seattle, Washington.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 2, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents and other relatives drove to Chicago Friday. The body did not arrive for the services as scheduled, and the Fosters were unable to remain in Chicago over the weekend for the funeral. They were able to view the body and to attend a wake service.
Survivors are his parents; his wife, Lois; an infant son; four brothers; and three sisters.
Wyman is buried in Beverly Cemetery at Blue Island, Illinois.
